I know people have fit 16x10s, but don't know about the 17s. Honestly, I think they should fit with a little bit of work assuming they've got the max amount of backspacing and the car isn't lowered too much. Sorry, I'm realizing my post isn't much help :)

I just followed your blog - subscribed to the RSS. I've my own black fox GT that's been on hold for the last 3 or 4 years, and will be so for at least 1 more. (It's been sitting in my garage in the middle of a 408w swap.) I'll live vicariously through you for the time being :)

Be careful with those wheels. Some people have no problems with them at all, while others have had them come apart on them. They'll probably make good enough street wheels, but I don't know if I'd trust them on the track. Then again, those cheap wheels are favored by a lot of drifters as they're cheap to replace when they smack walls or bounce off other cars.
