I started my SVO intake installation on a sunny Saturday afternoon and it took me a good 10 hours to complete. I feel that the SVO intake is a VERY good piece of the puzzle to complete the never ending building up of horsepower of our potent modular motors. However, the SVO intake alone won't do it, but it does definitely help in broadening the power band above 4,000 RPM. Jason Webb gave you some background on the install but I will give you a couple tips and tricks that will help if you decide to do the installation yourself.

I would HIGHLY recommend having a good set of 3/8" and 1/2" metric sockets and wrenches prior to starting. Also, it is a good idea to read the instruction manual a couple over to get a clear understanding of what is a head of you. The complete installation of the SVO intake is not tough at all, it is just a very tedious and time consuming job that anyone can do with any common sense and the correct tools. Speaking of tools... you will also need (in addition to the after mentioned sockets and wrenches) the special tool that removes fuel and A/C lines for Ford products. This set of of special tools costs approximately $8.00 for all of them (about 6 of 'em).

In addition to the well written instructions supplied with the kit you will need the directions on how to remove the cruise control cable completely from the car. You can get these from a service manual or e-mail me and I can provide them to you for a nominal cost (just joking! FREE to any fellow Mustanger). This procedure is not hard at all just tedious as stated earlier. It is stated that you remove the cable completely in step 4 but I chose to leave it till the last procedure because you will have to get under the car more than one time (ie: removal and installation of the old/new EGR tube). Another tip is that where you have use for a gasket, I recommend that you use a Oxygen sensor safe gasket sealant that will aid in the sealing of the upper and lower intake that is hard to get at if you are to get a leak while it is in the vehicle. Another thing I found out is that there is a part in the instructions that states that the rear of the "new" water tube should be 1 3/8" from the rear of the block; there is a reason for this. It is because if it isn't exactly 1 3/8" you WILL NOT be able to clamp this up to the rear of the intake plenum (with the rubber lined clamp provided) to prevent the tube from being loose. You will also notice that while you are back there putting this clamp on the it is very tight between the back of the block and the bulkhead (firewall). Ford also likes to use alot of acronyms (especially within the company) so it is also a VERY good idea to get familiar with the acronyms used in the instructions (basically all the modules and sensors) and find what they are and where they are located (i.e.: EGR, ACT, EVR, DPFE ect....)

Allin all, I found this install to be very rewarding. Not only for the power enhancement but the experience in wrenching on my "new" GT as well. Some will dispute the fact that the intake will not add power but these are the disbelievers that do not have one. I can assure you from first hand experience that it does help and with the SVO heads it can only be better. With that.... don't contemplate anymore - go out and order your intake and install it without having any regrets about it!

Good luck and drop me a line if you need any more data or info prior to or during the installation of your SVO intake.

BTW, Thanks to Ed Olin and Andy Schwartz for encouraging me to go ahead and do it. Also, for Ed for the couple times I was a "thorn in his side" prior to and after it was installed.
