This past winter I found a slight problem under
the hood of my car. It seems that the bearings in the fan clutch
decided to go south, as you can see here. A quick trip to Performance Parts, Inc. yielded
a Special Service Police fan clutch
to replace what was left of the original. Installation was straight
forward, simple, and only required a few simple hand tools. A rachet and
socket are not very effective throughout most of the installation
because the clearance between the fan and the water pump housing
is too tight. You will need a set of standard open end wrenches
and a ratchet with a 1/2" socket. The whole thing can be
done in about 20 minutes. And you'll be left with a fan
that has less drag yet provides the same amount of cooling
efficiency.

Assembly is the opposite of removal. Don't
forget to re-attach the overflow tube! |
