Installing the SVO Motorsports Aluminum
Driveshaft: In 1996 and up Mustangs equipped with the Borg-Warner
T-45 tranmission:
For this swap you will need the following:
-
Motorsports SVO driveshaft part
# M-4602-G ( @150.00 wholesale ).
-
Ford Slip Yoke part # E9TZ-4841-A
( @49.00 wholesale ).
-
New rear flange bolts part #
N-800594-S100, ( @ .99 each wholesale ).
And I do recomend replacing them, (you will need four
(4) of these ).
If you have the means, press off the yoke
that comes on the SVO driveshaft, (Save
or sell to to one of your T-5/C4 buddies for use as a tailshaft
plug). Press on the new slipyoke (part# E9TZ-4841-A)
If you can not do this
by yourself, most machine shops can do
for @ 50.00. Raise car, support by jack-stands
!! Raise car higher in rear to keep any transmission fluid from
leaking out of tailshaft. Unbolt the stock
steel shaft and slide out, lube
new slip-yoke with "teflon" grease and
slide the Aluminum shaft in place.
Install new rear flange bolts (parts #
N-800594-S100). and torque
to 75-90 lb-ft, lower vechile and road test. Now enjoy, you have just dropped
15 lbs of weight off your allready heavy SN-95 Mustang. One more
note; on some cars you might experence rubbing
of the driveshaft on extreme hard launches.( mine did, but I weigh 250lbs).
The area under the emergency
brake handle, where the two rear cables
join the control unit may rub the driveshaft,
you can grid away the rivet
heads or install the 1984 thru 1986 pinion-snubber
( @1/2' taller ). The Aluminum shaft
measures 3 1/2" vs the stock steel shaft's 3" diameter, hence the
reason it may rub. Any questions??? - email
