Ford's Shelby GT500 is a monster of a machine. Unfortunately, the Federal Government wants to keep the roar of that beast quiet so Ford has to meet what are called "drive-by noise requirements." To that end the GT500's supercharger has a muffler on it to help keep the car's distinctive supercharger more subdued. Just like restrictive mufflers on the exhaust, this piece robs horsepower. We found out that removing this government mandated restriction freed up as much as 22 horsepower!

Brand new for the 5.0 Mustang GT, Ford Racing is proud to announce the availability of the FR1 Power Upgrade Pack. With our exclusive calibration, your 5.0 will gain an approximate peak increase of 16 hp and 7 lb-ft on 93 octane fuel and up to 60 lb-ft at 1500 rpm. This Ford Racing Pack is applicable for both automatic and manual transmission models. Additionally, the Ford Racing calibration eliminates "skip-shift" on manual transmissions and the M-5230-MGTCA1 mufflers sound great.

LAS VEGAS – September 14, 2010 – Shelby American, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc. (CSBI:PK), will offer a Super Snake post title package for the 2011 Ford Shelby GT500 with new styling cues and an optional 800 horsepower tuned engine. Only 1,000 total Super Snake packages for the 2011 model year car will be built at the Shelby American facility in Las Vegas or one of the official Shelby Mod Shops, beginning in September of this year.
