2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302From 1969 until 1970 ford produced a high performance variant of the Mustang called the Boss. That car wasn’t born a legend, rather that is a title it earned in racing circles across the country. It can be said that this was the Mustang’s first foray as a street legal version of their Trans Am dominating racecar. Ford’s 2012 Boss 302 Mustang sets the stage for a repeat performance.

After the success of the original Boss, it would not be until decades later that Ford would try to produce street legal racecars again. In 1993, 1995 and 2000 the SVT Cobra R hit the streets as Ford’s street legal factory racecars.  These exclusive cars were available only to licensed racecar drivers (with the exception of the 2000 Cobra R which was available to whomever had the appropriate balance in their checking account.)  Low production numbers kept these cars out of the hands of all but a few lucky owners.  107 cars were built in 1993, 250 in 1995 and 300 in 2000.
